9. Zuger Filmtage
Kino Seehof, Zug
In the cinema, we encounter the longings, struggles and dreams of our time up close.
...Denksch mängisch du bisch voll im falsche Film? (Do you ever feel like you're totally out of place?)
The world around you is shaking and you feel like you're just watching powerlessly? This year, the Zuger Filmtage invites you to get out of your own echo chamber and immerse yourself with us in stories, perspectives and feelings that move, enthrall and challenge.
Because in the cinema, we sit next to each other and suddenly we are everywhere: in the reality of a distant country - when Fabienne Steiner's FITTING IN (Tue. 4.11.) takes us to South Africa, to the elite university of Stellenbosch, where young men struggle to find community between the shadows of apartheid - or inside the head of another person, when Eleonora Camizzi's PICTURES IN THE HEAD (Wed. 5.11.) immerses us in the sometimes absurdly funny, sometimes deeply sad world of thoughts of her father, who suffers from schizophrenia.
In the cinema, we encounter the longings, struggles and dreams of our time up close. We immerse ourselves in perspectives that are distant to us - only to realize how much we have in common with them.
We need cinema, which is why we accompany the construction of a monumental cinema palace with Jean-Stéphane Bron's LE CHANTIER (Thu, 6.11.) and ask ourselves what happens when the private sector determines culture and filmmaking, and how we can still keep cinema alive and accessible for everyone.
Because being totally caught up in a film means feeling together what moves others. To laugh, to hope, to cry together and to recognize: We all ask ourselves the big questions in life - despite all our differences. Because we believe that film is much more than an escape from everyday life. Cinema is political, it has transformative power: the stories that we experience there stay with us. We take them with us. We carry them out of the darkness of the auditorium, into our everyday lives and into our conversations. They change our perspective and we change our world with it.
Cinema makes us not just spectators, but empathizers, thinkers - and perhaps even actors. And that's exactly what we need. Now more than ever.
With this in mind, we invite you to join us in celebrating the unifying power of cinema.
